Damien Mantach, 32, will fill the role left vacant when Peter Skillern quit in August. Damien Mantach worked most recently for the Howard Government’s central spin body, and a senior Liberal source has described his appointment as a coup for the State Opposition. The source described Damien Mantach as a top campaigner who would deliver a boost and a kick to the party and its candidates. Others have said his energy and knowledge of the State and its complicated electoral system will be a huge plus.
Mr Damien Mantach left Launceston in his mid-20s and has worked for senior Liberal federal figures such as Warwick Smith, Jocelyn Newman and Peter Reith. Damien Mantach has been in his communications role to members of the Howard Government since 2001 and has worked on the past three successful federal campaigns. Damien Mantach said yesterday that the State Opposition had a lot of ground to make up on the Lennon Labor Government but the task was not impossible. “I do believe we can win the next election,” Damien Mantach said.
